On August 8, 1968, Horst Kessler von Sprengeisen landed in the Philippines to establish the liaison office of a trading company from Germany. Little did he know that he was planting the seeds for what will be one of the most trusted trading company in the Philippines.
Fifty years later, HAMBURG Trading Corporation is celebrating its 50th anniversary in their newly minted building in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. Horst Kessler von Sprengeisen, now Chairman, and family, greeted the 70+ employees of HAMBURG during the festivity on August 8. Cargill Philippines President Philip Soliven was the guest of honor.
In his speech, Mr. Kessler recalled the moment he decided to establish HAMBURG Trading with his wife Pacita and how it evolved from a chemicals trader into a diversified trading company today. President Lenie Bermudez highlighted the company’s latest achievements and current plans, and where HAMBURG is headed.
Another highlight of the night was the unveiling of Kessler’s Cocoa—HAMBURG’s latest foray into food retail. Gianna Kessler von Sprengeisen, Vice President for Marketing and PR, finally introduced to the public what her department has been working on for the last 3 months. Ms. Kessler conveyed the roller coaster ride of creating a new brand for the company since this is the first time that HAMBURG is going to enter a new landscape in the food industry.
Ms. Kessler reiterated that along with the introduction of Kessler’s Cocoa, HAMBURG is also opening PAMANA, a contest for home bakers and baking enthusiasts. According to her, the goal of the contest is to provide “support to micro baking entrepreneurs to grow their business through product, mentorship, and technical assistance.”
After the unveiling, members of the audience had the privilege of first-tasting Kessler’s Cocoa as Mrs. Kessler and Ms. Bermudez spearheaded the cutting of the cake.
Before the celebration ended, Ms. Rosario Perez was given a Service Award for her 35 years in service with HAMBURG. According to her, she stayed with the company because of “a wonderful boss, and colleagues who treat each other like family.” After which, Ms. Lina Rogel, Vice President for Administration, gave her closing remarks wherein she is looking forward to “great more years for HAMBURG and the Kessler family.”
And in true HAMBURG fashion, the festivity was filled with drinks and delicious German foods catered by the German Club.
